HO Syndicate Waterskis Fin Setting Guide

If you've just picked up a new HO Syndicate Works or Omni, you’re holding a masterpiece of carbon fiber engineering. But as any high-level skier will tell you, a world-class ski is only as good as its tuning. Adjusting your fin can feel like "pissing in the wind" if you don't have the right tools, but once you understand the mechanics, it becomes your most powerful tool for consistency in the course.

Before you touch a single set screw, find your baseline. HO Sports updates their factory settings throughout the year as their pro team (like Rob Hazelwood and Will Asher) finds new "sweet spots."

"I strongly recommend sticking at stock unless you have professional help... it can be a deep rabbit hole. If you get lost, go back to stock and make sure you know where you feel comfortable." — Rob Hazelwood, Syndicate Pro Skier.

To dial in your Syndicate, you need a high-quality 8-inch digital caliper. You’ll be measuring three primary dimensions:

  1. Distance from Tail (DFT): This controls how much "tail" is behind the fin. Moving the fin back makes the ski feel more stable and "bigger"; moving it forward makes it more maneuverable but less forgiving.
  2. Depth: Deepening the fin increases stability and tracking (making it "track like a laser"). Reducing depth allows the ski to roll over more easily into the turn.
  3. Length: This is the distance from the front of the fin block to the tail of the blade.

Measure Twice: Always zero your calipers before every measurement.

Don't Over-Tighten: Use a 5/32” Allen wrench. Tighten until clamped but avoid stripping the aluminum threads.

The "0.010" Rule: In the world of fin tuning, ten-thousandths of an inch is a massive change. Adjust in increments of 0.005" and take notes on every set.

"If you feel like you're constantly breaking at the waist as we're trying to turn in... this can mean you have a little bit too much length in that fin." — Syndicate Setup Guide.

Tip Diving? If the ski tip is biting too hard in offside turns, move the fin rearward or tilt the front of the fin up slightly.

Squirrely Offside? If the ski feels "wild" or starts the turn too aggressively, try adding 0.005" of length.

Too Much Drag? If you're struggling to cross the wake with speed, try moving the fin forward to allow the ski to rotate more freely.

If you’re still feeling lost, their team of experts is just a phone call away to help you find your "sweet spot."

This video provides professional insight into how micro-adjustments to your fin can drastically change your performance in the slalom course.
