Western Canada's only full-service water ski & wakeboard school
Moose Juice Fun Series
**REVISED DATE -
Saturday July 14, 2001 - Tournament Details
Hosted by: Captain's Village Marina, Finz Bar & Grill & Shuswap Ski and Board School
Sponsored by: Moose Juice Binding Lubricant, Water Ski Canada, Nautiques

The MOOSE JUICE Fun Tournament Series has been developed by Water Ski Canada (WSC) and Moose Juice, to promote participation in water skiing and wakeboarding. The focus is on FUN & PARTICIPATION. Instead of age-based divisions, competition is athletes of similar abilities. All participants receive a tournament souvenir and participants who achieve personal best performances receive WSC Personal Best Certificates. Each PB will be published on the WSC web site, and in other WSC communication tools. In addition, each time a youth (under 13 as of January 1st, 2000) achieves a PB, his/her name will be put in a draw to win one of several scholarship awards, worth between $100 and $300 (draw to be done at the end of the series). So the more you participate, and the more PB's achieved, the greater chance of winning a scholarship award!

Site: Competitors should be at the site by 8:00am, on the beach next to FINZ Bar & Grill, at Captain's Village Marina, Scotch Creek, BC. It is important to be on time, as we plan to get going as quickly as possible. We expect to run to 3 or 4:00pm and will go rain, wind, or shine, so come prepared for Mother Nature!
Everyone must register before the event. With a limit of 30 total participants, this should be done immediately. To be sure you are registered before the 30 cut-off, fax the registration form/waiver to the Shuswap Ski & Board Club:(250) 955-0937. The entry fee is $20 per person and includes an event souvenir. For insurance reasons all participants must be members of a provincial water ski association and these can be bought at registration, if not already members.
Each participant should plan to ride twice, choosing two events from the following four: water skiing (2 skis); slalom skiing (1 ski); trick skiing; or wakeboarding. Results will be based on scores within the divisions listed below.

Equipment: Participants who do not have their own equipment may use the school's skis, boards, vests, etc. but must make arrangements to do so through the school on the Saturday before the event.

Event Explanations

Water Skiing and Slalom Skiing:
For this Fun Series Event a slalom course will not be used. Scoring will be based on the number, and width, of wake crossings. Each skier gets 2 passes at their requested speed. With Intermediate or Advance divisions the second pass must be 2 mph faster, or at a shorter line length, than the first. The skier crosses back and forth over both wakes as many times as possible, going out as wide as possible, between the start bouy and the end bouy. The second pass is done in the same manner only in the opposite direction. The judge in the boat scores each wake crossing from 1 to 4 points based on its width (wider is better), and the points accumulated in the two passes determines the total score.
Trick Skiing:
Each skier gets 2 twenty second passes in which to do as many tricks, of as a high a point value, as possible. The skier may select their boat speed (typically between 12 and 20 mph or 19 to 32 kph). The timing is started when the skier begins their first trick or when they reach the start bouy and a horn will be sounded after 20 seconds to indicate the end of the run. A fall ends the pass, but credit is given for all tricks properly completed prior to the fall. To receive credit for a trick, the skier must perform a recognized trick from those listed below or from those listed in the Water Ski Canada rule book. Rule books are available from Water Ski Canada at a minimal fee. Tricks only partially completed when the horn sounds or which cause the skier to fall are not scored. Only Novice level skiers will receive credit for repeated tricks.
